Vintage Branding Iron - Japanese Branding Iron - Vintage Yakiin - Yakin - Kanji Stamp - Metal Stamp - Hiragana Ta S116

Vintage Branding Iron - Japanese Branding Iron - Vintage Yakiin - Yakin - Kanji Stamp - Metal Stamp - Hiragana Ta S116

Vintage Branding Iron - Japanese Branding Iron - Vintage Yakiin - Yakin - Kanji Stamp - Metal Stamp - Hiragana Ta S116

This is a vintage branding iron called a "yakiin". These were/are used on wood, leather...food...anything you want to brand. Please see the last picture to see an example of how it can be used.

I think they would look fabulous if used in pottery as a stamp. Also...I think they could be used with ink but as it is metal, the image wouldn't be as smooth and clear as a rubber stamp -please keep that in mind if that is how you want to use it.

"た" "Ta" (Hiragana character in Japanese writing forms) means

他: other
田: field

The hiragana syllable た (ta), whose equivalent in katakana is タ (ta). It is the sixteenth syllable of the gojūon order, and its position in gojūon tables is た行あ段 (TA-gyō, A-dan; “row TA, section A”).

For a list of words starting with た (ta) see: Special:Allpages/た

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Special:AllPages/%E3%81%9F

They are from the "昭和" "showa period" . The "showa" period is from 1926-1989 but these are at least 30 years old.

This is made of iron. Please look at the pictures carefully

It measures 22 cm long x 2 cm (the stamp) wide.

Japanese Kimono Stencil - Katagami - Vintage Stencil - Japanese Stencil - Large Stencil - Vintage Japanese Stencil - Flowers

Japanese Kimono Stencil - Katagami - Vintage Stencil - Japanese Stencil - Large Stencil - Vintage Japanese Stencil - Flowers

Japanese Kimono Stencil - Katagami - Vintage Stencil - Japanese Stencil - Large Stencil - Vintage Japanese Stencil - Flowers

This was an amazing find. This is from the "昭和" "showa period" . The "showa" period is from 1926-1989. This is called "型紙" or "katagami". Flower.

Katagami are made of multiple layers of thin mulberry paper which are bonded with a glue extracted from persimmon, which makes a strong flexible brown coloured paper.

This katagami was used for "katazome" which is the method of dyeing fabrics (kimonos) using a stencil and a resist paste. The resist paste was made with rice flour and when dyed, the dye didn't adhere to the areas covered with the paste. It was an inexpensive way to make all-over patterns similar to a woven cloth.

**** Please note that this katagami has a fine silk screen between the layers of paper. This was added to reinforce the stencil. This means that unlike some of our other stencils, you wouldn't be able to use a pencil-paint or ink would work.

For more of our vintage stencils please click here
http://www.etsy.com/shop/VintageFromJapan?section_id=6263764

*******PLEASE NOTE- there is a distinct odor from whatever ink was used on this. This is in excellent condition but it is vintage and therefore not perfect. This is also quite sparkly so sparky paint/ink must have been used.

This stencil could be used but it would also be fabulous framed and hung on a wall.

This stencil measures about 22 x 25cm.

PLEASE NOTE:This was very hard to take pictures of and it is much more amazing in person.

Japanese Doll Head - Woman - Hina Doll - Hina Matsuri - Japanese Doll Festival - Girl Doll Head - Queen D10-3 Mini Size

When we bought these we were told that they had been in storage for some time but they couldn't tell us exactly how long so....these might not be vintage (20 years be Etsy standards) BUT they are a supply and I think they fit with this shop so we are offering them for sale here.

This one measures about 16 cm long including her hair and about 6.5 cm including the stick and about 9.5 cm around. The details are really amazing! The head is made from clay.

About Hina Matsuri
Platforms with a red hi-mōsen are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形, hina-ningyō?) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period. The custom of displaying dolls began during the Heian period. Formerly, people believed the dolls possessed the power to contain bad spirits.

Vintage Japanese Game Card Chiyo Wife of Yamauchi Kazutoyo Set 15 From 1937

Vintage Japanese Game Card Chiyo Wife of Yamauchi Kazutoyo Set 15 From 1937

Vintage Japanese Game Card Chiyo Wife of Yamauchi Kazutoyo Set 15 From 1937

Karuta is the most popular among the many kinds of card games in Japan. It is played mostly on New Year's Day, but there are also national conventions for playing karuta. Each card has a poem, or portion thereof, written on it with a total of 100 poems in the game.

The 45th NHK Taiga drama (2006) is a dramatization of the life of Kazutoyo, with his wife Chiyo as the central character. Kōmyō-ga-tsuji: The story tells Chiyo,as a wise and beautiful wife, helped her husband Yamauchi Kazutoyo up from an ordinary samurai to the governor of an entire province, Tosa

****** PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT THE ENTIRE CARD SET but rather some of the cards as it was an incomplete game so we broke them up into smaller sets.

2 cards in this set.

In this set, the game of karuta involves two types of cards.

1 "reading" card with drawings: yomifuda
1 "grabbing" card with words: torifuda

There are whole phrases of waka from the collection called Hyakunin Isshu written on the yomifuda. Only the lower phrase of the waka is written on the torifuda. When the reader reads out the waka on the yomifuda, the player quickly searches for the card among the torifuda to look for the phrase that matches the one that the reader is reading. This is the basic rule.

These are from the "昭和" "showa period" . The "showa" period is from 1926-1989 but these are from 1937.

These would be great for using in your art...mixed media, collage etc.

Each card measures 7 x 4.8 cm.

You get the cards you see in the pictures.
