Japanese chiyogami washi paper is silkscreened by hand with vibrant colors. Chiyogami paper has a long past but today the decorative patterns are silkscreened onto machinemade sheets of paper that is a mix of kozo ( a deciduous tree indigenous to Shikoku and Kyushu Islands in Japan) and sulphite (sulphite is used to keep the price reasonable). 

To create 1 piece of gorgeous chiyogami, a sheet of paper is silkscreened by hand with each individual color. Between applications of color, the sheets are dried on racks. You can imagine how time consuming and difficult it must be to line up each color in relation to the pattern!

They measure 6 x 6 cm or 2.4 x 2.4 inches.There are 40 sheets in total - 20 plain colored and 20 with a pattern. 

This paper is perfect for scrapbooking, card making, origami, collage or any project you can think of!

This is hand-silkscreened chiyogami paper. This paper is beautiful-there are lots of folding fan and flowers like cherry blossoms, plum blossoms and etc. So beautiful!

This is 1/2 of a full sheet which works out to 30 x 90 cm or 12 x 35 inches. It comes folded in a bag (I bought it this way) and I will package it very carefully so it doesn't get damaged.

These are gorgeous! There are 5 buttons each with gold plum blossoms on a black background. Each one is handmade by me using fabulous chiyogami paper and aluminum buttons. I applied multiple coatings of lacquer. Even though these are sealed, they are made from paper and therefore should only be used on items that don't need to be washed. They would be perfect for decorating bags, collages etc. You could also use them to make hair accessories, magnets etc.

They measures about 2.5cm wide. You will receive the set in the pictures.

Chiyogami Paper

I finally went paper shopping. The store we go to has strange business hours and is a bit far away but we finally got there. We picked up a lot of paper so we will be listing it over a period of time. Here are some of my favorites!

The first one is my absolute favorite paper. I'm having a love affair with ume (plum) blossoms lately. This paper is sophisticated and elegant and I want a wall covered in it so I can just stare at it all day. You can't really see it but there is a ton of gold on this paper....stunning!!

I also LOVE this next one because it is so unique and reminds me of tree branches. When I see this I keep thinking "tree of life".

This next one is also wonderfully unique...bold colors...a mix of flowers, traditional Japanese designs bamboos etc.
